Now in its fifth year, the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) is bringing back Summer Streets: the closing of Park Avenue to cars for a stretch of nearly seven miles (Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park) three Saturdays in August (August 4, 11, & 18) from 7 am to 1 pm.
Summer Streets this year will feature a 160-foot long zip line at Foley Square, and a 25-foot tall climbing wall at Spring and Lafayette. Sports activities ranging from basketball to baseball to hockey as well as free exercise and dance classes will be available again this year, as well.
In the Grand Central Neighborhood, free bike repairs and bike helmet fittings will be available at Park and 51st Street, as well as a football toss with NFL Play60, DOT’s Truck’s Eye View, a fire hydrant sprinkler, and breakfast and bike pictures from Visit Denmark. At 40th Street, there’ll be the Muscle Milk Recovery Park with massage therapy and restorative yoga and meditation.
